GENERAL CRISIS COUNSELLING

HERE2TALK

 Provided by the Government of British Columbia, Here2Talk is a free, confidential 24/7 counseling and community referral service that is available to all students currently registered with a BC post-secondary institution. Users can explore wellness resources, such as managing stress and anxiety, adapting to new challenges, maintaining healthy relationships with friends and family, and more. Students can also opt to receive weekly “healthy reminder” notifications. 

EMPOWER ME

 Students covered under Langara Students' Union Health and Dental plan have access to free 24/7 counseling services, 365 days per year. All students (including those not enrolled in the plan but experiencing a mental health crisis) can receive crisis counseling support by calling the 24-hour helpline from anywhere in North America. 1.844.741.6389 (toll-free) 

CRISIS CENTRE OF BC

If you are in need of general crisis counseling but are in a circumstance where it is difficult for you to verbally talk about the crisis, there are other options for you. Langara College has a positive relationship with the Crisis Centre of BC. The Crisis Centre of BC also offers an online chat line from 12pm (afternoon) to 1 am.

SEXUAL ASSAULT SERVICES

VANCOUVER GENERAL HOSPITAL - SEXUAL ASSAULT SERVICE

Provides sensitive and comprehensive health care to women, men, and trans-gendered individuals age 13 and over who have been sexually assaulted within seven days. Offers confidential care including assessment and treatment of injuries, sexually transmitted infections, and pregnancy prevention as well as forensic evidence collection and emotional support. Referrals to health, legal, and community-based support services are also provided. The team comprises of female nurses, nurse examiners, doctors, and counselors that provide care 24 hours a day. Go directly to the Vancouver General Hospital Emergency Department and ask for the Sexual Assault Service. Interpreters for people who have difficulty with English are available.

BATTERED WOMEN'S SUPPORT SERVICES

Provides one-to-one support, advocacy, counseling, information and referral, and a variety of support groups for women who have experienced relationship violence, regardless of their race, culture, physical ability, or sexual orientation. Intake and Crisis Line: 604.687.1867

SHELTER SAFE

Provides information for women looking for a shelter or wanting to make plans to leave an abusive relationship. Information is available in French, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Polish, Tien, Vietnamese, Punjabi and Farsi. 1.877.384.8062 (4:30 pm–11:00 pm Monday to Friday, 1:00 pm–11:00 pm on weekends and holidays)

WOMEN AGAINST VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

They are a feminist, anti-oppressive, decolonizing rape crisis center operating on unceded Coast Salish Territories. We provide support services to survivors of sexualized violence who have shared experiences of gender marginalization: cis and trans women, Two-Spirit, trans, and/or non-binary people. We advocate for social and systemic change through education, outreach, and activism.

BRITISH COLUMBIA SOCIETY FOR MALE SURVIVORS OF SEXUAL ABUSE

The British Columbia Society for Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse (BCSMSSA) is a non-profit society established to provide therapeutic services for males who have been sexually abused at some time in their lives. As specifically outlined in our constitution, our purposes are to:

  • Provide treatment and support services to male survivors of sexual abuse and support significant-others and relatives of the survivors.

  • Acquire and develop educational material concerning the sexual abuse of males.

  • Gather statistics for dissemination to professionals and the community at large.

  • Assist in establishing within British Columbia new agencies dealing with male survivors of sexual abuse by providing training opportunities, whenever possible, to interested personnel.

  • Ensure clear, consistent communication in dealing with other involved agencies or professionals in order to guarantee comprehensive case management.

  • Consult with community and government groups in the areas of prevention, treatment, therapy, and other matters relating to sexual abuse of males.

MOSAIC

Provides Multicultural Victim Services to multicultural women, men, all genders, who are victims of all types of crime in Vancouver, free and confidential service. Also provides free and confidential Stopping the Violence Counselling to women experiencing abuse – services available in Hindi, Punjabi, Spanish and other languages.

QMUNITY

QMUNITY is a non-profit organization based in Vancouver, BC that works to improve queer, trans, and Two-Spirit lives. We provide a safer space for LGBTQ2SAI+ people and their allies to fully self-express while feeling welcome and included. Our building serves as a catalyst for community initiatives and collective strength.
